Coronavirus / COVID-19

In light of the Government’s latest advice regarding the Coronavirus / COVID-19 earlier today, we have decided to close all of our class for the time being.

At the moment we going to remain closed until the end of the Easter holidays, potentially re-opening on Friday 24th April. This date is subject to change as the situation may not have returned to normal by that point.
EDIT: This date has now been set back to Friday 15th May. See more here – https://dragonspiritaylesbury.co.uk/2020/04/20/coronavirus-covid-19-update/

We will of course notify you all when we know for certain when classes can return. This will be here on the website, on our Facebook page and Twitter account.

[UPDATED] Advanced Closure Notice – Friday 20th March

We regret to inform you that there will be no classes on Friday 20th March 2020.

Sensei Julia was already expected to unavailable that night, leaving Sensei Adam to run the classes that night. Unfortunately Sensei Adam is now required to be in Norwich for 9:30am the following day, meaning he will need to leave Aylesbury the night before during class time. While he expected to be in Norwich that day, he didn’t know it would for 9:30am until last night. Therefore he is also unavailable to coach on that night as well.

To make up for this we will open an extra set of classes on Friday 17th April 2020 during the Easter Holidays. We will still be closed on Friday 10th April as expected as that is Good Friday. In other words, our Easter break will now be only 1 week instead of 2 weeks.

We are sorry if this causes any inconvenience, especially at this short notice.

Licence Fee Increase

Our governing body, The World Ju-Jitsu Federation (WJJF), have decided to raise the price of membership (aka ‘the licence’ / ‘Budo pass’).

The Board of Directors regret to inform you that there will be a general price increase for materials / gradings / memberships / etc., which will be introduced from the 1st March 2020. Unfortunately, this is due to continual rising costs which we have battled with for some time.

This has not been an easy decision as the Federation always has its Coaches and Students’ best interests at heart and over the years, has fought to keep charges down to an absolute minimum.

Please bear in mind that this will be the first price increase for 7 years and, wherever possible, we will always endeavour to keep these increases to a minimum.

This means that the registration fee for the children’s class (7 – 15yr olds) increases from £27 to £28, while the registration fee for adults class (16+ year olds) goes from £29 to £32.

You do not need to pay the new fee until your current membership is up for renewal.

We have also updated our FAQ page to reflect this change.

Christmas 2019

Tonight are our last lessons of 2019! After tonight we won’t be back until Friday 10th January 2020!

Who’s up for one last throw around? Doors open tonight at 18:45 with the children’s class at 19:00 and the adults class at 20:00.

In the mean time, we’ve updated the ‘Opening times‘ page on our website with all the dates for 2020.

Children’s class full!

Our children’s class has now reached its maximum safe capacity, meaning we can no longer accept any new students for the children’s class. Spaces at our children’s classes have become highly sought after and we are now operating a waiting list for children who want to join.

We therefore need students to attend on a regular basis. Failure to attend 4 classes in a row means you will lose your space to a new student. If you then want to return, you will be placed on the waiting list to await a free space. If a student is unable to attend due to sickness or injury then exceptions to this rule will be made on a case by case basis.

Should a space be made available then we will contact the parents of the first on the list to see if they are still interested. If they are no longer interested we will contact the next on the list, and so on until the space can be filled.

We’d also like to remind people that while the children’s class is full, we do have spaces in our adults class!

New Club Email Address

We have created a new email account, that is to be jointly accessible by both Sensei Julia and Adam.

Previously most of our online profiles (such as our Twitter account or Yell.com listing) used Adam’s email address, which while there was no issue with it, it did mean Julia would be unable to access those sites to make any changes if needed.

Therefore we set up this new email is jointly accessible by both Julia and Adam and we will move to use it in future for any new pages. It will also make it easier to pass on access to those pages should either Julia or Adam stop coaching.

But without any further ado, the new address is: dragonspiritaylesbury@gmail.com . You can of course still contact us through our private addresses if you want to speak to one of us directly.

Summer 2019

This Friday sees our last week of classes before the summer break. We all enjoy training, but it’s not quite as fun when it’s too hot!

After Fridays classes, we will reopen for lessons on Friday 6th September 2019.

That doesn’t mean it’s all stop for everyone though! Sensei Adam will be has a busy summer planned, with a Seminar in Manchester on the 3rd August being run by the highest ranked belt in the WJJF, Jūdan (10th Dan!) Shihan John Greenhalgh.

That’s on top of the 6 planned trips to Norwich to attend classes run by Scichidan (7th Dan) Kyōshi Robert Howes, just as he did last year.

While this will be mostly for his own Nidan (2nd Dan) training, Adam will bring back more training methods and techniques for the rest of us to use!
